Take the streets for the anarchist May Day 2023 in Hamburg!
Once again it’s May 1st. Once again we call you to take the streets of Hamburg with us and shout our utopia and our demands for the future out into the world: It shall finally become livable for all people everywhere, anti-authoritarian and free from oppression and capitalism. It has been one year since we were ambushed and beaten up by the cops on the Veddel. An obvious attempt at intimidation that, just like all others before since the 1886 Haymarket Massacre itself and into the future, will remain unsuccessful. A lot has happened this year, but our determination to stand up for the good life has not diminished one bit in the process.

It has been a wild year that has shown again that we cannot rest in our isolated subcultural spaces. We live in the heart of the beast and we have to fight the battles here that our comrades and companions all over the world are fighting under much more difficult conditions – on hunger strike like Alfredo Cospito or armed against Mexican paramilitaries, to name just two examples. Here, where the cops last year and again this year murdered young people for clearly racist reasons without incuring any relevant consequences. Here in Hamburg, where the strike of the dockworkers was put down by the cops: a clear sign for us that radical left and wage-dependent classes have to come together stronger! Because whenever the eternal crisis of this system cuts us off by inflation, rising rents and terror of the authorities, we have to stand shoulder to shoulder. For the beautiful life for all!
Here, where big business, under the protective hand of the so-called „Green“ Party, has once again been able to use the cops as a personal corporate goon squad to clear forest after forest and pull coal out of the ground under Lützerath, which, if burned, will further destroy our planet and our future. Here, where society is being further militarized, where „Reichsbürger*innen“ plan a reactionary coup d’état. Where right-wing networks (involving police and military) continue to be uncovered daily, but the cudgel of state power is wielded against the left with tiresome regularity; where a memorial demonstration for the victims of racist terror in Hanau is terrorized by helmeted and armed cops and where consistent anti-fascism is criminalized. Many antifascists are still behind bars. We have to fight in this country where city halls are decorated with rainbow flags and cops walk alongside CSD marches and yet anti-queer violence is a part of everyday life, where a trans man is murdered simply for being who he is.

We live in the country that produces the tanks that the fascist Erdogan regime deploys against our comrades in Rojava; a country that builds components for drones with which Kurdish civilians and fighters are murdered without any reason other than Erdogan’s fascist great power fantasies. People who were rightly celebrated as heroes in the fight against the „IS“ / Daesh and then betrayed by the government of the BRD and handed over to the Turkish military as soon as they no longer seemed useful. The same Turkish military that does not shy away even from firing rockets at the people waiting for help amid the ruins of the recent earthquake, while at the same time impeding the flow of humanitarian aid because of the most disgusting political power games on the borders with Syria. Aid that has long come not from the state, but from dedicated activists. Nevertheless, these incredibly brave people continue to fight to defend the Rojava project, which continues to give us hope that the flower of revolution and emancipation will always find a way to thrive – even under the most adverse circumstances.

We must never lose this hope. We must not give up the struggle, no matter how hopeless it may seem and no matter how tiring. We must continue and celebrate the small victories: for example, the cops who sank in the mud of Lützerath, who lost control and were rendered powerless to oppose the energetic and in parts militant crowd. This world needs resistance even here, where capital seems to be overpowering. Here, too, our struggle is needed and we must not let up in order to get closer to our utopia. In small steps, with many setbacks, but unstoppable!

Therefore, we call once again for an anarchist May Day! Storm the streets of the city of millionaires with us! On May 1, 2023, we again say „The system itself is the crisis – anarchism on the offensive!“ Our meeting point is at 4 pm at the subway stop „Hagenbecks Tierpark.“
